If you have any questions or comments about the Wood Database in general, please use the contact form below to reach me. Please keep in mind:

  • I do not buy/sell any wood on this website; please do not ask me about pricing or availability.
  • If you have a mysterious piece of wood that you’d like identified, I would recommend contacting the Center for Wood Anatomy Research, (part of the USDA’s Forest Products Laboratory), for a free, reliable, and professional identification. This is a free service available to all US citizens: they will identify up to five wood samples per year.  See their Wood ID Factsheet.
  • If you’d like to donate wood sample(s) to be scanned and used as part of the database, (even wood veneer can be sent, which can be shipped for the database’s scanning at minimal cost.), a  4″ (long) x 4″ (wide) x 3/4″ (thick) cutoff is preferred, though a smaller piece (such as veneer) can be cut and sent in a regular envelope with dimensions of approximately 3 1/2″ by 3 1/2″. If more than one species is to be shipped, and cost is an issue, I’m willing to reimburse you for the shipping costs.
  • If you’d like to add information about a wood species already in the database, then the best way to do that is by navigating to the specific profile of the wood species, and leave a comment on that specific page, under the heading which reads: “Share Your Experience with this Wood Species:”
